I love this series. The bones are possum finger bones which I found travelling around New Zealand beaches. They are tiny and so fantastically detailed. I found the bones picked perfectly clean by the busy creatures at the seashore and simply bleached them when I got home before mounting them into jewellery, inspired by my very clever brother Robert Upritchard, who works with found natural objects in his amazing landscaping work. Possums are a real problem in New Zealand because they are destroying our native forests and eating the eggs of endangered birds so somehow it feels rather satifying to turn them into something beautiful at last!
For this necklace I embedded the clasp into one of the bones which I think is rather posh!
